OK-ACRL Code of Conduct

Purpose

  • The Oklahoma Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries (OK-ACRL) is committed to providing a respectful and safe conference experience for everyone.
  • We value collaboration, diversity, and inclusion as core principles of our profession and association.
  • Participation in the OK-ACRL events, such as the Annual Conference, is contingent upon following this Code of Conduct.

We Welcome All Participants Regardless of:

  • Background or family status
  • Gender identity or expression
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age or ability
  • Race, ethnicity, or national origin
  • Socioeconomic status and education
  • Religion
  • Geographic location
  • Native language
  • Any other dimension of diversity

Expected Behavior

  • Be Respectful: Value each other’s ideas, styles, and viewpoints.
  • Be Direct but Professional: Speak honestly while remaining respectful.
  • Be Inclusive: Seek diverse perspectives and facilitate participation for all.
  • Understand Different Perspectives: Be open to ideas that enhance our own.
  • Lead by Example: Match your actions with your words.

Prohibited Behavior

  • Harassment or intimidation
  • Unwelcome sexual attention or inappropriate physical contact
  • Yelling at or threatening others (verbally or physically)
  • Use of derogatory or discriminatory language
  • Sustained disruption of sessions or events
  • Personal attacks
  • Inappropriate use of sexual imagery or language outside professional contexts

Reporting Process

  • If you experience or witness a code of conduct violation, please submit a report using the online form.
  • Event attendees currently experiencing a violation may notify any OK-ACRL officers or board members in attendance at the event (refer to Current Officers, Board Members, and Chairs for the current roster).
  • All reports will be reviewed by the OK-ACRL Board.
  • OK-ACRL Board members and event staff will assist those experiencing harassment and ensure they feel safe.
  • Event security or local law enforcement may be involved if appropriate.

Consequences

  • Participants asked to stop prohibited behavior are expected to comply immediately.
  • Violations may result in:
    • Being asked to leave the conference with no refund.
    • Prohibition from future OK-ACRL events.
    • Other actions deemed appropriate by conference organizers.
